Yoyogi Park borders the Meiji Shrine and Harajuku. It is the famous site where the first successful powered aircraft flight in Japan took place and later became an army parade ground (as well as housed military barracks for U.S. soldiers during the Allied occupation of Japan). The park is a popular location, especially on Sundays when it is used as a gathering for Japanese rock music fans. In spring the park is known for its cherry blossom during hanami. There are lots of picnic areas and bike paths.
